Iron Man Smoothie (Paleo, AIP)

At the office, I got a great nickname post iron infusion. When I returned, my desk was fully decorated in Iron Man gear, and the nickname stuck. Even post infusion, I still worry that my iron may dip again, so I try to eat offal like liver, leafy greens, and throw in spirulina whenever I get the chance.

This Iron Man Smoothie is packed full of iron and inflammation busting properties.

Spirulina is the most nutrient dense food ON THE PLANET. Can you believe that? It may taste like a swamp monster, but you can’t ignore how jam packed it is. It has a net protein utilization rate of 50-61%, Thiamin, TONS of iron that’s easy on the digestive system, calcium (almost 30% more than in milk!), riboflavin, niacin, copper and so much more. It’s also chock full of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), and is full of antioxidants.

All-in-all, Spirulina is where the party is.

This smoothie has a tbsp of spirulina, but plenty of other goodies that mask the… distinct… taste of this powdered green superhero.

  1. Blend all ingredients in a high power blender and enjoy! Use more liquid like coconut milk or water to thin out to desired consistency, or keep it really thick and eat like a smoothie bowl!
